The sequel to Radical Entertainment’s best-selling open-world action game of 2009, PROTOTYPE 2 takes the unsurpassed carnage of the original PROTOTYPE and continues the experience of becoming the ultimate shape-shifting weapon. You are Sgt James Heller, husband to a deceased wife and child and a soldier left simply to die.

PRO’s

• Powers
  Getting all your powers, levelling up, and then unleashing them all in a sandbox world is rather fun.  Although it would have been nice to see a better variety of moves.  (I’m not counting any possible DLC here.)  Also, where is the graphical detail for the lower-half of your body?  All the pixels were spent making your arms a different shape of red and silver.

CON’s

• Difficulty
  I found the game to be rather easy.  I originally started on “Normal” and while I was level 1 it wasn’t very challenging.  Going through it a 2nd time on “Hard” with New Game+ to get the achievement, you retain all your power-ups.  I guess if you start from “Hard” off the bat it might be a better balance.  I really didn’t have any trouble dying up until the final boss, and even then when I realized what I was doing wrong it was pretty simple after that.
• Glitchyness
  Most times you’ll find yourself running in different directions.  There are also times where you’re doing missions and the game will go into a cut-scene, leaving Heller to get whacked by infected and whatever happens to be next to him and your only option during the cut-scene is to walk around on your cellphone like nothing is happening.  Granted, it doesn’t hurt you while this is going on, but it just looks awkward.
• Dialog / Game Pacing
  As with many modern games, my gripe is always that there are too many cut-scenes and breaks to do some talking.  These are video games… not movies.  Especially since most of the dialog in this game is just Heller swearing 99.9% of the time or some random military jargon.  Not a big complaint, but the story could have been portrayed slightly better.

FINAL THOUGHTS
If you liked the original Prototype, this is definitely an upgrade to that, so you’ll enjoy this game.  There’s still a lack of multiplayer.  A co-op mode or even battle system would have been a cool inclusion.  Also, once you beat the story, there’s not much reason to go back and play it again (minus Achievements), as enemies and missions get repetitive really fast.

Some games aren’t the greatest in terms of story, but some games a pretty sweet comic strip will unfold.  (and yes, that is a Geo-Boner if you were wondering.)

My favorite part about escaping reality is chilling around the campfire, and sightings of a Carlos with a puppy companion.

 With a little bit of tips-and-tricks, “Gannon” was defeated, and the princess saved.
